Can Christians be possessed by demons?

Q: **Are "good Christians" supposedly safe from possession?**

A: I am a good person to tell you about this because before I was a Christian I was a practicing psychic - a witch. And ten years of practicing witchcraft culminated in me being demonically possessed.

Believe it or not I grew up in a Christian household - my parents were saved when I was eight - and I was a “good Christian”.

But I got into something in church called “word of faith” which has a lot of other names including positive confession but which is basically Christian witchcraft. I didn’t know that. But it pulled me way down the wrong path. And it was someone who professed to be Christian who got me into it! Some one I trusted. But I had no discernment snd couldn’t see that. That’s because I didn’t know or read my Bible enough to know what it really said. I also wasn’t fully committed to Christ and was accepting certain sins in my life such as sexual sins and not repenting and getting rid of them.

I was young and hadn’t been taught that Christians can’t willfully sin and remain Christian.

After the Lord rescued me and I repented I got rid of all my psychic and occult books and such and it filled an industrial sized trash can! And the Lord spoke to me and told me to choose who I believed. He made it clear Jesus was the only way. So I started following Him. That was eight years ago.

I’ve since heard many people who mean well saying “Christians can’t be possessed”. That is categorically false. They can and can also be harassed by demons who want nothing more than to make us fall away from the Lord. Which is also possible. It’s a nice fat lie from. Satan that you can’t.

The people who say you can’t be possessed or harassed

1. Don’t have personal experience like I do

2. Don’t have Bible verses to back up their point

3. Use the argument that the Holy Spirit and demons can’t occupy the same space. That argument is a fallacy. God is everywhere. If that argument were true there would be no satan and no demons at all!

These people want to help people but helping people means telling them the TRUTH when they need the truth, not lying to them to make them feel better. Ultimately a lie WONT help you and WONT make you feel better.

the Bible DOES speak of believers having demons. Judas was one.

**Luke 22:3**

3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve.

Peter was another. Oh yes he was! Look here.

matthew 16:23, Mark 8:33

**Jesus** turned and said to **Peter**, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men."

Did you catch that?

Jesus was speaking to the enemy (satan means enemy) that was using Peter as a mouthpiece!

A similar thing happened to James and John too!

luke 9:54-When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do You want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?”

But Jesus turned and rebuked them. He said, “You do not know what kind of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy the lives of men, but to save them.”

“you don’t know what kind of spirit you’re about.” i think many of us don’t know what kind of spirit we’re really about, much of the time.

I don’t know if they were possessed (probably not) but their loose lips and the evil that was in their hearts came out through their mouths and it was definitely an evil spirit that provoked them to say such things.

Evil spirits can speak out of your mouth if you speak in the flesh. If you’ve ever heard anyone say something particularly evil that cut you to the core, it was probably demonically influenced.

Evil spirits can also completely overtake you if you’re given over to a sin, even if you’re a believer. This happened to my husband before we were married and he was a Christian then too.

The Apostle Paul said to turn people over to Satan that they might be saved. This is what he was talking about: Some stubborn people like me need to learn the hard way. And in this day and age when the truth is hardly taught, many people are learning the hard way.

That’s what happened  to me with the occult. I was completely given over to it. And that can happen with any sin. Especially, though, It seems to happen with occult, idol worship, (which can be as simple as practicing yoga which is an eastern religious practice. So  are martial arts), Satan worship, violence (including watching excessive violent films, video games, etc), magic (even “fun”pretend magic including books, certain Disney movies (Frozen, anyone?) and video games), contacting ghosts, ouija boards, sexual sin (including porn) and of course drugs and alcohol. There’s a reason they call them spirits!

So YES. If a Christian is enslaved to sin of any kind OR to something that isn’t exactly a sin but they’re enslaved anyway  (Entertainment & media are good examples) THEN YES they can become harassed by the demonic and eventually even literally possessed.

THE GOOD NEWS is that Jesus can set you free! If you’re enslaved to sin and want out, get on your knees right now snd REPENT. really repent. Turn from your sin. See how wicked it is and that it’s so bad it can send you to hell.

(see verses below. Please read them and don’t skip this).

Once you know how truly deserving of hell you really are THEN you can repent and turn from your sin. PROVE you’re sincere by getting rid of everything that helped you sin. You won’t find this hard if you’re truly repentant.

Then  ask The Holy Spirit to come into your heart and lead and guide you. Start reading your Bible - and OBEY it. Be a doer of the word and not a hearer only, and bear fruit in keeping with repentance.

Here’s the verses:

1 Cor 6:9-10 *Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor homosexual offenders, nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were*.

Gal 5:19-21 *The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God*.

Eph 5:3-6 *But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. For of this you can be sure: No sexually immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Therefore do not be partners with them*.

Rev. 22:12-16 *“Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star*.”

Matt 25:41-46 “*Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life*.”

**And finally just a general warning from the Lord**:

John 5:28-29 *“Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned. By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me*.
