Why I don’t fear covid

...And why true believers shouldn’t either

“Fear not.”  Jesus said this at least nine times. It’s in many other places in the Word as well, both old and New Testament, in over a hundred places. When angels approached men in the Bible they were often told to fear not.

Not fearing is a command in the word. It’s not a question. It’s not a “maybe”. It’s a command.

Fear in both Hebrew and Greek is the same word for reverence. It’s used to explain how we should treat God. With fear and reverence.

In Matthew 10:28, Jesus tells us

to “fear not them which kill the body but are not able to kill the soul; but rather fear He who has the power to destroy both body and soul in hell.”

Jesus himself said that. And who do you suppose he was talking about? I’ll give you a hint. It wasn’t Dr. Fauci.

The word for fear here in both places by the way is phobios. Greek for fear and reverence. We are commanded here not to reverence men but instead to reverence God.

God is in control of who gets sick. God is in control of who lives and dies. And God is in control of even the sparrows falling to the ground.

Jesus says we’re worth much more than they are.

Our prayer should always be “Gods will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” So why do we try to thwart Gods’ will? And why are we wringing our hands and worrying when it can’t make one hair on our head black or white nor add an inch to our stature?

If we truly believe that God is sovereign, which means he is in control of everything, we should trust Him to do His job. Which is controlling the universe.

If God is in control, then everything we try to do to control things is an illusion. Which is deception. Or worse, it’s manipulation. Which is as the sin of witchcraft. If you think about it, witchcraft is trying to manipulate or control external circumstances via spells and incantations or other methods. And to a believer, these things are forbidden. See Deuteronomy 18:9-14

Proverbs 3 says to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

If you are still trusting in the arm of man and not in God and his sovereignty, listen up!

It’s vitally important that you examine yourself and see if you’re really in the faith!

Trust in the Bible is synonymous with BELIEF. Pistos is the word for  belief in the New Testament and according to strongs concordance it means “pistós, pis-tos'; trustworthy; subjectively, trustful:—believe(-ing, -r), faithful(-ly), sure, true.” Belief might better be translated TRUST.

We tend to think of belief wrongly. We think of it the way we might think of believing in Santa Claus or fairies. And that’s not the case at all. If we truly BELIEVE God, we will put all of our trust and FAITH in God. And that is the cornerstone of the Christian faith.

Here’s my point:

If you don’t trust God, you don’t really BELIEVE God.

This is devastating once you grasp it. And it’s the truth. So let me repeat it.

If you don’t TRUST God, you don’t really BELIEVE God.

And true belief is the foundation of the Christian faith.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever BELIEVES in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  You know where that’s from. But have you ever stopped to really examine if you REALLY believe?

How can you tell if you do or not?

Many people claim to be Christians and would stake their life on it. But many are not actually walking in faith as evidenced by their lack of Trust in our Lord and savior. In effect, they ARE staking their life on it - their eternal life. Because many are not actually walking in faith as evidenced by their fear - which is a sign of a lack of faith in our Lord and savior.

Faith and fear are opposites. They can’t live in the same place. If your heart is full of fear constantly then you’re listening to and trusting in man.

Listen up!

Unbelief is SIN. So is living in a constant state of fear.

Now everyone falls into sin at times and at those times when we take our

eyes off of Jesus it’s important that we refocus our eyes on him  retake authority in Jesus name and take our eyes off of the situation. If that’s happening to you may I suggest you prayerfully fast from all media. This can help you put your eyes back on Jesus where they belong.

But what if we’ve never had our eyes on Jesus in the first place? What if we’ve always trusted the government? Spiritual leaders? Doctors? Psychology experts? Science? The media? Books? Teachers? Friends and family? Celebrities like Oprah or Dr. Oz or even Rush Limbaugh or even (heaven help us) Donald trump? Or most pervasive and insidious, ourselves?

Those things are all man and his strength and  knowledge. And we should never trust in them above God and his word. If we do, then we are setting ourselves up for a fall. And additionally, we may not even truly be saved.

A lot of people want to tell you that you’re saved and that’s all there is to it because once upon a time you said a prayer and asked Jesus into your heart.

But Jesus said you MUST be born again or you won’t see the kingdom of God. (This is in John 3, right before the famous John 3:16)  Salvation is a work ofGod and your “decision” has little to do with it.

When God changes your heart and opens your eyes, and you see yourself as you truly are - a pathetic sinner trying desperately to run your own life but instead running it into the ground- then and ONLY then will you see that God alone is in control and the only way to life is through Him.

If you are still holding on to the silly illusion (deception) of control then it’s possible that that has never happened to you. In which case I pray that you’d get on your knees and beseech the Lord earnestly for a true born again experience in which he changes your heart.

A true born again experience isn’t the same as sitting in church. It’s not following a set of rules for rules sake (though we do obey him out of love and respect for him, and that is one of the fruits or evidences of salvation!) Being born again is exactly that. It’s a transformation of your mind and soul into a new creature. The old man DIES. And we continue to crucify that old man whenever he resurfaces. Jesus said whoever doesn’t pick up his cross and follow Him is not worthy of Him!

We can make lists of things we should do to be true Christians but the One Thing the Bible actually says is to Repent and Believe. And without that as the foundation then everything else we do is in vain. We will run to and fro looking for answers from man but we will never get answers from man.

The only answers are in fully relying on God.

He’s in control anyway, whether we trust Him or not.

And so we shouldn’t fear, whether it’s the coronavirus, liberals in power (try praying for them instead), or the fearful things that are coming upon the earth.

God is in control my friends. I pray he opens your eyes so that you can see it.
